Michigan

Admitted to the Union on January 26, 1837 as the 26th state. Michigan was under British occupation in 1790. The 1800 federal census taken in eastern Michigan as Wayne County, Northwest Territory, is lost, as is the Michilimackinac census in 1800 Indiana Territory.

  • 1810 federal census is lost for all four civil districts except fragments extant for Detroit and Michilimackinac.
  • 1820 – 1940 federal censuses extant for all counties except for 1890.
