Earliest known ancestor is Joseph PARKS (b. 1727 Co. Antrim Ireland) who settled in Cumberland Co., Penn. abt. 1760. The Joseph PARKS family relocated to the Scots-Irish community in Augusta Co. Va. during the Revolutionary War and returned to Cumberland Co. Penn. about 1786. The oldest sons, James (b. 1761) and Thomas (b. 1763-d. 1796 Huntingdon Co. Penn.) settled in Huntingdon Co., Penn. at that time (ca. 1786). Joseph had two sons who may have settled in Virginia – Joseph II (b. 1768) and John C. (b. 1772). Joseph II and John C. are both old enough to have been the father of James PARKS (b. ca. 1791 Va.), earliest known ancestor of LK=GO (see test 126932).

Joseph’s wife, Rebecca CLARK, died in 1794 and Joseph died 1810 – both are buried at Tinkling Spring Cemetery, Fishersville, Va. They apparently did not stay long in Pennsylvania and returned to Virginia. Their youngest son, David (b.17 Jul 1779) is buried at Green Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Washington, Virginia.

He was born in County Donegal and came to New York in 1847, then on to Portland, Maine where he married Catherine CUNNINGHAM, daughter of Bridget BRESLIN and Hugh CUNNINGHAM. His only known relatives were his aunt and uncle: Bridget (Mary) KILDAY (b. 1795-d. 1855) and William PARKS b. 1792-d. 1855 and their seven children – 6 settled in Portland, Maine and 1 (John) in Barnesville, N.B. John, his wife and 3 children—William, Mary and Rachel—arrived in 1847. Passenger list states they were from Ballybofey, Donegal, about 15 miles from the County Tyrone border. William married Sarah STEWART of the Loyalist STEWART family. All were Roman Catholics.
