West Virginia

Admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863 as the 35th state. Prior to statehood, West Virginia was part of Virginia and was enumerated as part of that state 1790 – 1860.

  • 1790 – 1800 federal censuses lost for all counties.
  • 1810 federal census extant for all counties except Cabell, Greenbrier, Hardy, and Tazewell.
  • 1820 – 1940 federal censuses extant for all counties except for 1890.
